Patrick A. Williamson, contemporary expressionist,
whose genius was first recognized on Sotheby's On Line Auctions in
December 1999, is now a listed fine artist in MAYER 2000/2001 and 2003
International Auction Records, the world’s most prestigious guide
of important auction results.
Patrick A. Williamson is an American, born 1968 in
Fairfax, Virginia where he spent his early years. Although exhibiting
strong artistic talent by age six—his first formal art classes
were at an inner city junior high school in Orlando, Florida. During
his high school years, dedicated art teachers took a keen interest
in Patrick giving him fine instruction in drawing, drafting, ceramics
and printmaking. Upon graduation, Patrick was offered a scholarship
to the Savannah College of Art and Design. However, even with the college’s
generous four-year scholarship offer, Patrick financially would not
be able to study in such a privileged environment. Instead, he chose
to relocate with his family to Santa Rosa, California where he attended
Santa Rosa Junior College in 1987. He studied painting for the first
time with renowned San Francisco artist Maurice Lapp. His other studies
included figure painting in oils, printmaking and figure drawing. Patrick
was drawn to the strong primary colors and the compositions of contemporary
artists Miro, Picasso, Paul Klee and Kadinsky. He studied their work--they
became his influences—and he now enjoys being compared with Picasso
by many of his collectors. As he became recognized for his bold colors
and captivating themes, he was invited to exhibit in many venues including
(in California) Santa Rosa Gallery, Lawrence Gallery, an individual
showing at Mesa Boogie, Petaluma.
Returning to Orlando by 1994, Patrick continued to pursue his painting
and his music. As a gifted bassist, and playing everything from rock
to jazz-fusion—it seemed natural to incorporate this love of
music with his art. Images of his bass, as well as his fellow musicians,
can often be found in the compositions of his paintings.
Patrick’s Florida exhibits include the Orlando
Museum of Art, the Orlando Performing Arts Program, and the popular
Blue Room. Paintings can be found in the homes and offices of his collectors
spanning the USA and Europe—and his works adorn the walls of
many trendy restaurants and international hotels. Musicians “Carlos
Santana” and jazz artist “Stanley Clarke” both enjoy
original works by Patrick in their collections.
